Bembridge Angling Club 2010 Open Cod Competition
80 anglers signed on for Bembridge Angling Club’s open Cod boat competition, despite a dubious forecast which suggested some strong winds for a time in the middle of the competition.
Due to the small tide and despite the forecast, a number of boats opted for offshore marks but the smaller ones were forced to retreat inshore when the strong winds that had been forecast actually went through the area.
At the close, 29 anglers weighed in an estimated total of around 40 Cod.
Mark Smith opted to fish a traditional inshore mark & was rewarded with a competition winning bag of four fish for 54 lbs which took the £300 first prize.
Alan Deeming opted for a middle distance mark and his two fish bag of 38 lbs took the second place prize of £200. His bag included the heaviest Cod of the competition at 20 lbs 10 ozs for which he received a rod donated by Scotties fishing tackle shop Newport.
Nigel Cunningham's 32 lbs 7 ½ ozs took the £150 third place prize jointly donated by Joe Filipe &Nick Challen Building Renovation Services.
Steve Miller’s bag of 31 lbs 4 ½ ozs took the fourth place prize of £90 jointly donated by Charles Smallman & the Bembridge Harbour Company
