41 anglers signed on for Bembridge Angling Club’s recent boat based open Bream competition. Despite favourable conditions, this was less than had been hoped for, possibly as a result of previous reports of poor catches. Unfortunately catches did not improve on the day and only 15 anglers were able to bring fish to the scales. In the interests of conservation, the club had imposed a limit of no more than two fish to be weighed in but some of the 15 anglers were only able to bring 1 fish to the scales.

Liam Smith took the Sydenhams sponsored £150 first prize with a 2 fish total of 4 lbs 7½ ozs

There was a tie for second place with Hugh Rackett & Steve Simmonds both on 3 lbs 14 ozs so they took £75 each, being half the combined  Sydenhams sponsored  second & third  place prizes.

Mark Tutton’s single  bream of 2 lbs 11 ozs  took the Charles Smallman sponsored £50 prize for the heaviest single bream by a senior.

Danniel Gawn’s weight of 1 lb 15 ozs gave him the Odessa Angling Centre donated prize rod for heaviest single fish by a junior.

Subsequent winners had a choice of table prizes kindly donated by club chairman Bob Cowley.
